Gone but never forgotten

mum cropped and condensed

Gone but never forgotten

I’ve forgotten what it feels like to have you hug me,

I’ve forgotten the gentle sound of your voice,

I’ve forgotten your praise for the good I did,

I’ve forgotten the warmth of your love,

I’ve forgotten your wrath when I did something naughty,

I’ve forgotten the safety I felt in your arms,

I’ve forgotten the time you nursed me to health,

I’ve forgotten you giving me all of your wealth,

I’ve forgotten you telling me to share my heart,

I’ve forgotten your advice on worldly matters,

I’ve forgotten you bandaging my bloodied knee,

I’ve forgotten you cooking my delicious tea,

I’ve forgotten your infectious laugh,

I’ve forgotten your love of romantic books,

I’ve forgotten getting one of your looks,

I’ve forgotten the time you told me I was special,

I’ve forgotten the sweet smell of your hair,

I’ve forgotten you teaching me to be a lady,

I’ve forgotten the protection I felt in your arms,

I’ve forgotten the hand that was always outstretched,

I’ve forgotten you putting me in a thermal vest,

I’ve forgotten you giving me my very first pet,

I’ve forgotten the effort you went to for me,

I’ve forgotten how I felt when I saw your face,

I’ve forgotten the time that you made me a dress,

I’ve forgotten the time that you cleaned up my mess,

I’ve forgotten you reading my bedtime story,

I’ve forgotten you basking in my glories,

I’ve forgotten how I wanted to be just like you,

But here’s the thing dear mother I might have told a lie,

19 years together and 19 years apart,

My memory never stronger as you sit inside my heart x
